Everton America Coaching Staff

ALEX CUNLIFFE Director of Coaching - Boys

Alex has been involved in Everton America since 2008 where he joined the coaching staff after completing a BA at Fairfield University in 2007. Alex came over to the US on a full scholarship after spending time at several professional clubs in England, namely Tranmere Rovers FC. After several seasons coaching for Everton America Alex has moved into the position of Director of Coaching for the boys program.  

NEILL MILES Director of Coaching - Girls

Neill joins us to head the girls program for Everton America. Neill brings with him experience and background including
coaching in the UK, Indonesia, Germany and Spain as well as professional playing experience in the UK and US. Neill’s coaching includes time in Indonesia with various charities as well as the Centre of Excellence for AFC Bournemouth of English Division One. Neill came to the US where he was employed as an NSCAA Instructor in New Jersey for three years where he has certified over 300 coaches, “I feel very privileged to be able to do a job that I love and to have the opportunity to both direct and coach the girls program for one of the foremost soccer clubs in CT, Everton America and take them to the highest level
they can compete in”.

JOHN DAVIES Academy Director

John joined Everton America in 2010 after coming to the US with Noga Soccer where he worked for a number of years coaching in towns throughout Fairfield and Westchester county at premier and travel levels. Originally from Liverpool, UK, as a player John spent several years at his boyhood club Everton FC where he learnt his trade as a young Academy player. From this experince with Everton John gained an extensive first hand knowledge of the "Everton way" curriculum being coached by current EFC coaches Ray Hall and Neil Dewsnip before moving to Preston North End on a 3 year professional scholarship under then-manager and current EFC manager David Moyes, from his time playing John is able to boast playing with and against top level professionals currently playing at the highest level and also being developed by current top level coaches. After completing his scholarship John completed a BA in Sports Analysis Education and Particpation Development at Edge Hill University. John was recently appointed Academy director and coaches 3 younger teams within the club, including the U12 boys regional who he recently guided to the CJSA league title without losing a game. 


Russell joined Everton America in 2007. A Native of Northern Ireland, as a player Russell graduated from the Coleraine FC Academy. He completed a BA in Sports Science at Northumbria University in England in 1999 before coming to the USA. Has worked with MLS and GB soccer in the USA, also Coached in Australia, Germany and the UK, where he was an academy coach for both Sunderland FC and Glasgow Rangers FC.

LEON OTHEN Director of Goalkeepers

Leon has joined Everton America to develop and progress our premier and academy goalkeepers. After professional playing experience in the UK and Malaysia Leon came to the States in 2005 where he quickly went from Goalkeeping Coach for select clubs in California to Goalkeeping Director for MLS Camps and then UK International. Leon holds the highest US goalkeeping certification and has been a coach educator across the North East of America. Leon has been coaching premier soccer since 2006 as well as Goalkeeping coach for University of New Haven.


Paul joins us from Challenger Sports where he was Regional Director for Pennsylvania and West Virginia where he was responsible for coach and player development for a large number of clubs and teams. As head coach for the U16 team at Soccer Association of Columbia Paul took a team competing at the second tier of state competition to competing in Region 1 and playing against academy teams from around Maryland for which he was recently awarded their “Coach of the Year”. Paul spent time at University of Worcester obtaining a master’s degree in Sports Coaching as well as coaching at both professional and college levels throughout the UK.
